Fresh Pear Pie

I’m a big fan of pies. They make the perfect weeknight dessert, holiday treat, or sweet addition to any potluck.

I also love making sweet treats with pears, like pear walnut crisp, pear pecan cobbler, and fresh pear pie bars.

This delicious pear pie combines two of my favorite loves to create a rich, creamy custard pie loaded with fresh pear flavor and a crumb topping that always has everyone begging for more!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Basic Ingredients: This pie uses fresh pears and basic baking ingredients found in any kitchen.
  • Easy to Make: This recipe only takes a few incredibly simple steps and about an hour from start to finish.
  • Delicious Pear Flavor: The custard filling is topped with sliced pears to create a rich, creamy, and sweet pear flavor in every bite.
  • A Tasty Crumble: The simple crumble topping is rich, buttery, and loaded with cinnamon flavor for a nice finish.
  • Great for Meal Prep: This pie is freezer-friendly, so you can make extras for future use.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts in the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Sour Cream: Sour cream is the base for the sweet, tangy, custard-like layer of the pie.
  • Sugar and Vanilla: Sugar and vanilla give the filling a sweet, aromatic flavor.
  • Fresh Pears: Sliced fresh pears get soft and extra sweet as they bake, making a tasty counterpoint to the tang of the sour cream filling.
  • Butter: Butter binds the crumble topping together and gives it a rich flavor.
  • Cinnamon: The cinnamon in the crumble topping adds earthy spice to the pie’s tangy, sweet flavors.

Variations

  • Other Fruits: You can use other sliced fresh fruits to create versions like this sour cream apple pie, a peach version, or even berry varieties.
  • Greek Yogurt: Full-fat Greek yogurt can be used in place of sour cream for the same flavor and texture.
  • Pear Pie Bars: Use a graham cracker crust mixture and bake the pike in a baking dish to make a bar version.
  • Canned Pears: Use canned pears when fresh ones aren’t available.
