Want to try an easy and delicious meat and potato meal that is not only cheesy and creamy, but filling and satisfying? Wait until you try this Kielbasa Sausage Cheesy Potato Casserole. This comfort food recipe is scrumptious, easy to make and simply delicious.

I love making a simple casserole for dinner. When everything cooks in one pot, it creates the best flavors as everything combines. One bite of this cheesy potato casserole and you will know exactly what I mean. And then when it’s baked, the flavors are even more enhanced.

Can I Use Another Sausage Instead of Kielbasa

Sometimes, the grocery store doesn’t have kielbasa and sometimes, there is a similar sausage on sale. Either way, no matter the reason, you can use another sausage in the recipe. Since other sausages have different seasonings, the cheesy potato casserole will have a slightly different flavor. That’s okay because it is an easy way to change up this recipe to create something new.

Kielbasa Sausage Cheesy Potato Casserole is cheesy, full of sausage and potatoes.

How to Store Sausage and Potatoes

Once you have taken the sausage and potatoes from the oven and it is cooled, you will want to move the casserole to an airtight container. This is the best way to store it, although you can choose to store it in the baking dish if you prefer. If you keep it in the baking dish, make sure to cover it well with plastic or aluminum foil.

How Long Does Cheesy Sausage and Potatoes Casserole Last

When you store this cheesy sausage and potatoes in the refrigerator and in an airtight container, this casserole recipes will last about 3 days.

How to Reheat a Casserole

When I am reheating this casserole, I like to reheat it in the oven. I like the way it heats through without overheating one part more than another. If I am heating a single serving, it reheats in the microwave well.

Can this Cheesy Potato Casserole Be Made with Half and Half Instead

If you want to use something a little lighter than heavy cream you can use light cream or you can use half and half. The heavy cream will create the creamiest sauce and when the cheese sauce is mixed with potatoes and smoke sausage it is absolutely scrumptious. But light cream and half and half will still work fantastic.

What to Serve with Sausage and Potatoes

Whenever I make this, I like to also serve it with a vegetable side dish. You can go with a simple cooked vegetable, like green beans or carrots. Another option is to serve this with a simple side salad. And, here are a few more delicious side dishes.

  • Lemon Parmesan Baked Asparagus
  • BBQ Bacon Broccoli Avocado Salad
  • Bacon Green Beans

Can this Cheesy Potato Casserole be Frozen

I love making freezer meals whenever I can. It is a great way to cook once and eat twice. Sometimes I will make a double batch of this recipe. I will make one for the oven and the other one I will make in a disposable pan and then store it in the freezer. This way I can bring the pan out of the freezer, and bake it on the night I do not want to have to cook a meal from start to finish.

Kielbasa Sausage Cheesy Potato Casserole is made with kielbasa sausage, diced potatoes in a creamy cheese sauce.

How To Make Sausage Kielbasa Cheesy Potato Casserole

  • Preheat oven to 350° and lightly spray a 13 x 9 baking dish or a 3 quart baking dish with non stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a Dutch oven or larger stock pot, add cut sausages with about 1/2 cup of water (might need to add more water as sausage browns. Add 1/8 of a cup at a time. I use water instead of oil but if you want to use oil, I’d add a tablespoon instead of water).

  • After sausage has browned and onions are translucent, add diced potatoes to pot.
  • Pour chicken broth, heavy cream, cheddar cheese soup, seasoning and pepper into dutch oven/stock pot. Stir.
  • Cook over low heat just until mixture starts to boil. Turn off heat and add cheese to pot.
  • Mix everything together and pour into prepared baking dish. Add additional cheddar cheese on top, if desired.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 65-75 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  • Remove from oven and remove foil. Place back in the oven for 10 additional minutes.
