I do something very similar. Instead of buttering and grilling the bread, I toss my bread slices in the toaster while I am frying my egg.

No need for a second pan. Just fry the eggs, lift them with your spatula and hold them sort of suspended over the pan in case of drips. Lay down the first bread slice, buttered side down. Top with cheese, then put the eggs on top. Add second slice of cheese and slice of bread. Proceed as usual. I make this sandwich all the time…it’s great!

I have another way to make a fried egg sandwich with a double yolk(because you can never find a double yolk egg any more ever!) every time instead of frying two whole eggs ,all you have to do is break one egg into a small dish then separate the second egg( either throw away the egg white or save it it doesn’t matter) put the yolk into the small bowl with the other whole egg & you now have a double yolk egg and you can fry as normal!! Enjoy????

I have a whole carton full double yolked brown eggs. I bought it just a few days ago – and they’re not that big.

Why don’t you flip it? How does the top get brown?

Hi Lisa, you do flip it so both sides get browned. Cook it exactly how you would normally make a grilled cheese sandwich. :)

I was about to make my son some lunch today and he said that he is tired of what we had so I went on Pinterest to see if I could find anything interesting and I found the fried egg grilled cheese sandwich. I told him what it was and I asked him if he wanted to try it. He loves fried eggs and grilled cheese so he was eager to try it. So I made him one. As soon as he was done he asked for another one?
