Recipe FAQ
What kind of potatoes are best for breakfast potatoes?
Yukon Gold and russet potatoes are the best for pan frying as you would with breakfast potatoes. When diced, they get golden and crispy while maintaining their texture.
Why are my breakfast potatoes mushy?
If you overcrowd the pan or cover the potatoes while cooking them, they’ll steam rather than crisp and brown. This leads to mushy potatoes.
How do I keep my potatoes crispy?
Keep your potatoes in a single layer and don’t overcrowd the pan. In addition, never cover the potatoes when you cook them.
How long will leftover breakfast potatoes last in the fridge?
These breakfast potatoes will last for about 4 days in the refrigerator.
Does soaking potatoes make a difference?
Soaking potatoes removes excess starch, which helps keep the potatoes crispy while pan-frying them. Although not necessary, it can enhance the crispness of your potatoes.
How to Store and Reheat Leftovers
Store these potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
To reheat breakfast potatoes, spread them evenly over a baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees until heated through.
