In my honest opinion, this is the best red beans and rice recipe I have ever tried and it took me some testing to get it just right. Once you try it I am sure you will agree.

What Kind of Sausage is Best for Red Beans and Rice

I love the way sausage tastes with the red beans and rice. However, any type of sausage, like kielbasa, will go great with this recipe as well. You can use sausage that is not smoked, but the texture of the sausage is slightly different and you might find that you need to add in a bit more seasoning.

Red Beans and Rice with Sausage is hearty, delicious, and an easy one pot meal.

Can the Sausage Be Cooked in Oil Instead of Water?

I had someone ask me once why I cook my sausage in water instead of oil. The only answer I have is, that is the way I have always done it. If you prefer to cook your sausage in oil, you certainly can, however, water is a simple way to keep the dish on the lighter side.

How to Store Sausage and Rice with Red Beans

Once the sausage and rice with red beans has cooled, you want to move it to an airtight container. Once in the container, you will want to keep in the refrigerator. You can keep the sausage and rice with red beans in the Dutch oven , if you prefer, however, you will want to make sure it is covered well to protect it from being exposed to the air which causes it to go bad faster.

Red Beans and Rice with Sausage is a delicious comfort food recipe, loaded with smoked sausage, red beans, rice and vegetables.

How to Reheat the Best Red Beans and Rice Recipe

If you are serving the leftover best red beans and rice recipe the next day, you will want to make sure to heat it through to make it taste its best. Only serving a small amount, the microwave or a pot on the stove top works best. And, if you are reheating more than a serving size, you might want to reheat it in on the stove top.

How Long Can This Be Store In The Fridge?

When stored properly the red beans and rice with sausage will stay good for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. If you will not be able to finish the red beans and rice with sausage before it goes bad, you can move it to the freezer.

Each bite of this delicious Red Beans and Rice with Sausage is loaded with smoked sausage.

Can Red Bean and Rice Recipes be Frozen

If you are looking to make this a freezer meal or want to freeze it before it goes bad, move the cooled red beans and rice to a freezer bag so that once the bag is laid down flat, the red bean and rice recipes doesn’t take up much space.

Instant white rice? I’ve always had trouble with which rice to use in recipes. Would you recommend a healthier rice, perhaps?

I was born and raised in New Orleans all my life, The recipe for the red beans and rice is the same as I remember it, Yet it doesn’t look any of red beans and rice that have eaten in my city New Orleans, LA. Very bad looking picture does not do this dish justice. Great ingredients.

Hi Diane, thanks so much for your comment. I’m not claiming this is an authentic Louisiana red beans and rice recipe. This is my own version of a red beans and rice recipe that I make and wanted to share with my readers. Not authentic, just red beans and rice with sausage. :)
