Freakin’ Hot Chicken Nuggets Recipe
Ok spicy food lovers, here’s a delicious and spicy recipe you are going to love. These freakin’ hot chicken nuggets are just that, freakin’ hot! Each nugget is coated in these incredibly hot corn tortilla chips. The chips themselves are extremely hot and seasoned with an array of delicious spices making them super spicy. Garlic, paprika and cumin are just a few of the chip’s ingredients.

Spicy Chicken Nuggets
These are definitely spicy! If you love spicy food, you will love these freakin’ hot chicken nuggets. The chips are so hot there is even a caution notice across the front of the bag.
Our friend, Mike, who was/is the construction manager for our home, stops by on occasion when I’ve been cooking and need to share what I’ve cooked or baked. What a guy to come over and sample my recipes before they are posted. Anyway, one day while Mike was here, he mentioned these hot chips. We talked about how good they would be as a coating for chicken. Well, since we love spicy food we just had to try them. We bought two bags.
Even though these tortilla chips are extremely hot, once fried, they lose a bit of their “heat.” The additional seasoning adds even more spiciness. The added spices are not necessary.
Having a cool Ranch dressing nearby is a must. Well, not necessarily but it helps to handle the heat that comes along with these spicy chicken nuggets.
And, if you are not a fan of spicy food, use your favorite tortilla chips and season up the flour mixture to your liking. Then fry and enjoy!

Freakin’ Hot Chicken Nuggets
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts, boneless, skinless
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ tsp cheyenne pepper
- ½ tsp Slap Ya Mama® seasoning
- ¼ tsp pepper
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- 6 oz buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 9 oz bag Julio’s® Freakin Hot Corn Tortilla Chips, crushed
- 1-2 cups vegetable oil
Instructions
- Pour oil into a large cast iron pan, or frying pan, and turn heat to medium. Cut chicken into bite-size nuggets, set aside.
- Using 3 different bowls, whisk flour and spices in one bowl. Whisk buttermilk and egg together in second bowl and crushed chips in third bowl.
- Add a few pieces of chicken at a time into the flour mixture then into the egg mixture and finally into the crushed chips mixture. Set on a plate until ready to fry. Continue until all the chicken has been coated.
- Once the oil is hot, fry about 8 pieces at a time turning over once browned. Should be about 5-6 minutes total. Remove the nuggets and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Continue to cook the remaining nuggets until all are cooked.
- Serve with cool ranch dressing or dipping sauce of your choice.
- Caution: These are “Freakin Hot” but oooh so good. The Ranch dressing cools the heat a bit. The chips themselves are so hot but once crushed and fried, not as hot. Enjoy!
