Key Ingredients

  • Leftover Ham: Give the casserole a smoky, salty flavor, making the casserole cozy and filling.
  • Egg Noodle: Soak up all the creamy broth and make this recipe a one pot meal.
  • Heavy Cream: Give the sauce its rich, creamy texture.
  • peppery Jack & Monterey Jack Cheese: this combo adds creamy, cheesy goodness and a little pop of spice.
  • Onions & Garlic: Give the dish a classic, homestyle aromatic undertone.
  • Slap Ya Mama Seasoning: Add a bit of heat and a bold flavor that keeps the sauce from tasting bland.

Variations

  • Swap the Protein: Try leftover chicken, turkey, boneless pork loin, or oven baked beef brisket in place of ham.
  • Change the Pasta: Any short pasta variety will work, so you can use whatever you have on hand.
  • Switch Out the Cheese: Try sharp cheddar, cheddar, Swiss, or even Mozzarella in place of Pepper Jack for a milder dish. You can even use one type of cheese.
  • Extra Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or diced jalapenos for more heat.
  • Change the Veggies: Try adding frozen mixed vegetables or mushrooms.

Expert Tips

  • A Dutch oven works best for this recipe. Otherwise, use a heavy-bottom pot.
  • Don’t worry if the noodles aren’t fully submerged at first. They’ll sink in as they soften.
  • Cook the noodles until just tender to avoid a mushy dish.
  • Let the dish sit for a few minutes so the sauce can thicken up.
