These frosted warrior sugar cookies are a sweet way to show your support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They’re soft, tender, and buttery, with slightly crisp edges, creamy pink and white buttercream frosting, and plenty of pretty sprinkles. Whether you’re making them for a breast cancer awareness fundraiser, sharing them with someone going through treatment, or simply baking in honor of someone special, these cookies are a thoughtful treat.

A wood surface with five pink and white frosted sugar cookies placed on it with a bite taken out of the cookie in front, and a title overlay at the top.

The cookies themselves are incredibly easy to make. There’s no rolling out dough or messing with cookie cutters. Just scoop the dough, flatten it with the bottom of a glass, and leave those fun, jagged edges intact.

And then there’s the frosting! Three different shades of pink and white buttercream make these frosted warrior sugar cookies especially fitting for breast cancer awareness events. Finish them with pink and white sugar sprinkles, and you’ve got a beautiful batch of cookies that are just as delicious as they are meaningful.

For more delicious treats that can be warrior-themed desserts or served any time of year, try my white cupcakes with raspberry filling, breast cancer awareness molasses cookies, or chocolate cupcakes with raspberry buttercream frosting.

  • Make smaller cookies: Use a smaller cookie scoop for bite-sized treats and adjust the baking time as needed.
  • Make them seasonal: Change the frosting colors and sprinkles to match any holiday or celebration.

Expert Tips

  • Use softened butter: Soft butter blends much more easily into the cookie dough and frosting.
  • Don’t overmix the dough: Mix on low speed just until the dough forms a ball for soft, tender cookies.
  • Keep the rough edges: Don’t try to smooth the cookie dough after scooping. The jagged edges are part of the look.
  • Use the bottom of a glass: This makes it easy to flatten the cookies evenly while keeping the edges rough.
  • Don’t overbake: Remove the cookies when the edges are slightly browned to keep them tender.
  • Cool completely before frosting: Warm cookies will cause the buttercream to soften and slide.
  • Add the food coloring gradually: One and two drops create different shades of pink without making the colors too intense.
  • Leave one bowl white: The white frosting creates a nice contrast with the two shades of pink.
  • Add sprinkles before the frosting sets: This helps the sprinkles stick properly.
  • Let the frosting set before stacking: Give the buttercream time to firm up so the cookies don’t stick together.
  • Use parchment between layers: Once the frosting has set, place parchment paper between layers when storing the cookies.

Frosted Warrior Sugar Cookies FAQs

What makes these sugar cookies soft and tender?

The combination of softened butter, vegetable oil, and sour cream gives the cookies moisture and richness. Avoiding overmixing and taking the cookies out when the edges are only slightly browned also helps preserve their tender texture.

What does sour cream do in sugar cookies?

Sour cream adds moisture and richness to the cookie dough, helping create the soft texture that distinguishes these cookies from crisp sugar cookies.

Why do I need to cool the cookies completely before frosting?

Warm cookies can soften or melt the buttercream, causing the frosting to slide off instead of staying neatly on the surface. The recipe specifically instructs you to cool the cookies completely before decorating.

Why are my sugar cookies spreading?

If the cookies spread excessively, check that the butter was properly softened rather than melted and that the dough was not overmixed. The recipe relies on softened butter and instructs you to mix the dough only until it forms a ball.

Why are my sugar cookies dry?

Overbaking is one of the easiest ways to lose the soft texture. Bake the cookies just until the edges are slightly browned, then remove them and allow them to finish setting as they cool.

Why are my sugar cookies tough?

Overmixing the dough can make the cookies less tender. Once the flour mixture is added, mix on low speed only until the dough forms a ball.

How long do frosted warrior sugar cookies last?

Store these cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 days at room temperature. Be sure the cookies are placed in single layers and separated by wax paper. For longer storage, refrigerate them in the same manner for up to a week.

Can I freeze frosted sugar cookies?

You can freeze sugar cookies for up to a month. Freezing without frosting is preferred. However, they can be frozen after decorating if the cookies are chilled first to harden the frosting before layering.

A Sisterhood Bond for Life

There is a special bond between women who have heard the words “you have breast cancer” that you can’t quite put into words until you’re standing in it. We didn’t choose this club, and none of us wished for the diagnosis, but the sisterhood that came out of it is one of the most unexpected blessings of my life. Sitting down with these three women, looking into their eyes, and listening to their stories reminded me that we are never meant to carry the weight of recovery by ourselves. We've traded tears, shared real laughs, and held space for each other in ways only fellow survivors can understand. That connection stays with you long after the cameras are turned off-it's a quiet, fierce reminder that no matter what comes next, we stand together.

The Unspoken Bond of a Warrior

When you are told “you have breast cancer” your life is instantly changed. You are thrown into a world you never knew you’d be a part of. However once you become a part of that world you realize how we all connect. As breast cancer warriors we all know that you aren’t going to feel happy every day. You will continue to hope and stand strong through the unknown. And lean on each other when it’s tough. These sugar cookies were made with the intention of spreading happiness and remembering how amazing we can be when we support each other. They are frosted in pink and white buttercream and topped with sprinkles.

Finding Hope Together

There’s something about being around other warriors.  You don’t have to tell them about your bad days or even your good days they already know. It’s because of that bond that I decided to create this video. I invited all the warriors in Dr. Rourke's book (one could not get the day off work) so 3 of my fellow breast cancer warriors came to sit down and speak with me about our journey. Press play on our “Warrior Roundtable” to hear us share our personal journeys, talk through the emotional ups and downs, and reflect on what it truly means to find hope together.

Help Along The Way

If you take a closer look at some of the recipe pictures you will see my copy of Real Talk, Real Hope: Breast Cancer Your Way by my Surgeon Dr. Loren Rourke. This book was written by a breast surgeon who understands all that you may go through once you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. She can help you make those tough decisions along your journey. I hope by making these delicious eggless sugar cookies and creating our warrior video will help others open up about their experience and let them know they are not alone in this journey.

If you or a loved one are walking this path, Real Talk, Real Hope is the roadmap you need. And if you want to bring a little sweetness to someone’s day, these frosted warrior sugar cookies are the perfect sweet treat. Remember, you are never walking this journey alone.
