Homemade Apple Muffins are absolutely scrumptious and then to top them off, we added a glaze drizzle that just adds a little bit of sweetness to each bite.

When fall rolls around, I start making apple everything. Of course, this time of year, most people think of pumpkin – and I do make pumpkin recipes – but for me, apples are where it’s at. From apple pie to apple cake and everything in between, it’s an apple extravaganza for me and my family during the fall. One of my favorite fall apple recipes to make is this one. I love apple muffins. They’re so simple and sweet. They’re an easy recipe that packs a ton of flavor and really captures the fall feeling perfectly.
I love making up batches of these muffins and having them for a sweet breakfast or afternoon snack. They’re perfect for parties, and I’ve even been known to bring them to holiday get-togethers. Everyone always loves them.
Easy Homemade Apple Muffins Recipe
Every bite of these muffins is pure deliciousness. These tender muffins are full of sweet diced apples, then they’re topped with delicious simple icing. It’s a simple recipe that is far greater than the sum of its parts. All of those delicious apples add a wonderful texture to the muffins and a ton of that great apple flavor that I love about the fall.
Another big selling point of this recipe is just how crazy simple it is to make. There aren’t a lot of ingredients or involved steps. It’s just a simple, straight-ahead muffin recipe that is fully from scratch, but almost as easy as using a boxed mix. It’s the perfect combination if you ask me!
Tips for the Best Apple Muffins
Although this is a simple recipe, there are a few things to know that can help you make the recipe even easier. These are simple tips that can take your muffins from good to great, so be sure to give them a look.
Dice the Apples Small
It’s important to dice your apples into small pieces for this recipe. We want delicious bites of sweet apples, but we don’t want overpowering chunks. Dice your apples as small as possible so you avoid huge chunks in your muffins.
Room Temperature Butter and Eggs
It’s important that both your butter and your eggs are at room temperature. Fully softened butter creams together much more easily with sugar, resulting in a smooth creamy mixture free of any butter chunks. When eggs are at room temperature, they combine more easily with the other ingredients in the batter. They also help the muffins rise the way that they should.
Fold in the Apples
When adding the apples to this recipe, fold them in. You don’t want to overmix the batter, so use a spatula to gently fold in the apples to avoid overmixing.
Frequently Asked Questions
I know you’re itching to make these delicious homemade apple muffins. I don’t blame you. They’re delicious! But before you get down to it, be sure to read over this FAQ. It will answer some of the common questions associated with this recipe, so you’ll know exactly what’s happening during the recipe process.
What are the Best Apples to Use?
This recipe is all about sweetness, so I recommend apples like Gala, Fuji, Honey crisp, and other such sweet apple varieties. Unlike pies, you don’t want to use tart apples with this recipe.
Do I Need to Peel the Apples?
You should peel your apples. The skin will toughen up when cooked and lead to an odd, chewy texture when you eat the muffins.
Why is My Batter so Thick?
It’s supposed to be! These muffins are tender, but they’re also dense. If your batter isn’t thick, something’s wrong.
Can I Freeze Apple Muffins?
Absolutely. These muffins can be frozen for up to three months.
How to Store Homemade Apple Muffins
These muffins will keep well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. If you used the simple glaze called for in the recipe, you’ll have to freeze them because it’s made with milk. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to three months. Wrap each fully chilled muffin in two layers of cling wrap and then place them in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag.
