Sweet and salty is a classic dessert combination I’ve loved for years. From chocolate-covered pretzels to cheddar cheese-topped apple pie and everything in between, that combination of sweet and salty just makes my tastebuds happy. I know it does the same for everyone else I know, as well. That’s why I love making this delicious mixed berry pretzel dessert. Its salty pretzel crust makes the perfect counterpoint to the dessert’s no-bake cheesecake layer and the berry-licious pie filling topping that finishes it off. It’s a dessert I’ve been making for years, and I thought it was high time I shared it with all of you.

Mixed Berry Pretzel Dessert

This delicious layered dessert starts with a sweet, salty brown sugar pretzel crust that I bake until golden. Once it’s cooled, I top it with a sweet cream cheese layer and, finally, a layer of blueberry pie filling and a combination of fresh raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. It only takes about 30 minutes to make; the hardest part is waiting for it to chill. After a few hours in the fridge, I have a sweet, salty, berry-licious dessert that has everyone returning for more. They love the flavor, and I love how easy it is to make.

How to Mixed Berry Pretzel Dessert

This is an incredibly easy recipe to make. It only takes 10 minutes of baking, some mixing, layering, and chilling. That’s all there is to it. It’s a quick recipe that only takes a few simple steps.

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and lightly spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Pretzel Crust

Crush the pretzels in a large baggie with a rolling pin or pulse them in a food processor until coarse. Then, mix them in a large bowl with the brown sugar, flour, and vanilla. Melt the butter and mix it into the pretzel mixture until fully combined.

Step 3: Bake

Press the pretzel mixture firmly into the bottom of the baking dish in an even layer. Then, bake it for 10 minutes. Remove the dish and let the crust cool completely.

Step 4: Make the Cream Cheese Layer

Beat the cream cheese with an electric mixer in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Then, add the powdered sugar and beat until combined. Finally, fold in the Cool Whip until just combined.

Step 5: Make the Dessert

Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled crust. Then, spread the blueberry pie filling evenly over the cream cheese layer. Finally, top with fresh berries.

Step 6: Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap or foil and chill for at least 4 hours.

Recipe Tips

  • Fully soften your cream cheese for the best texture. If you try to cream cold cream cheese, you could end up with little bits of raw cream cheese in your mixture.
  • Be sure to press your pretzel mixture firmly into the bottom of the baking dish so it forms a cohesive crust that won’t crumble when you slice your dessert.
  • 4 hours is the minimum chilling time for this recipe, but chilling overnight yields the best results.

Variations

  • You can make a graham cracker, Nilla Wafer, or Oreo crust if you prefer.
  • Use your favorite pie filling and berries to create different dessert flavors. You can even use other fruit pie fillings like apple or pineapple.
  • Frozen berries work with this recipe. Just thaw them first.

What to Serve with Mixed Berry Pretzel Dessert
