Who doesn’t love French toast? I can’t think of anyone. It’s such a rich, sweet start to the day, and it always makes every day feel extra special. Over the years, I’ve made all kinds of French toast, from classic French toast and berry-filled to French toast bakes. One of my favorite versions of French toast, however, is this maple pecan version that I’m showing you today. It’s loaded with the classic flavors of maple and pecans, and it makes a wonderfully delicious start to any day. The flavors and textures work together beautifully!

Maple Pecan French Toast

This maple pecan French toast is a sweet way to get your day started on the right foot. Thick, Texas toast is soaked in a rich, eggy mixture, then topped with maple pecan butter and chopped pecans to deliver a breakfast that’s a ray of sunshine in every bite. Each forkful explodes with maple, pecans, and that classic, vanilla custard flavor of French toast that we all love so much. It’s a hardy breakfast that feels like dessert and leaves you full right up until lunchtime.

Variations and Tips

In addition to being easy and delicious, this recipe is also a blast to play with. There are a few things you can do to switch things up when you’re craving something a bit different. I’ve also included some tips to help ensure that you make the best French toast possible. Don’t skip this section!

Variations

  • Toast your pecans for a deeper flavor.
  • For an extra sweet breakfast, add some whipped cream to the top of your French toast.
  • A touch of hot cayenne – JUST a touch – helps accentuate the sweetness of this dish.

Tips

  • Always use thick bread like Texas toast or brioche for French toast. It stands up to being soaked in the egg mixture better.
  • Never substitute milk for the heavy cream in this recipe. It really adds a richness to the French toast that you can’t otherwise get.
  • When cooking your French toast, be sure you only cook the bread to a golden brown. Don’t overcook it!

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions about this maple pecan French toast, then read on. The following FAQ answers the most commonly asked questions about French toast.

Is French toast French?

Not at all. French toast got its name from Americans because French immigrants brought the dish over with them from Europe. French toast was actually invented long before France even existed. in fact, the French themselves called the dish “Roman Bread” for centuries.

What is the best bread for French toast?

Thick, hearty bread is the way to go for French toast because it can stand up to being soaked in the egg mixture. Texas toast, brioche, and other such thick bread work well.

What tastes good with French toast?

All kinds of your favorite breakfast foods taste amazing with French toast. Some favorites are:

  • Bacon
  • Syrup
  • Whipped cream
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Eggs over easy
  • Fresh fruit
  • Sausage links
  • Sausage patties

How do you keep French toast warm and crispy?

Preheat your oven to between 170 and 200 degrees. Then, place the French toast in a single layer on a baking sheet and place it in the oven until all the French toast is ready to serve.

Why doesn’t my French toast get crispy?

Too much dairy added to the egg mixture will prevent the egg from cooking, meaning wet, soggy bread rather than crispy French toast.

What is the trick to making good French toast?

Don’t cook your French toast on heat that’s too high. It needs time to cook all the way through, not just on the surface. In addition, wipe your pan between every batch of French toast so you don’t get burned butter all over your French toast.

What can I use instead of cinnamon for French toast?

Nutmeg is an excellent alternative to cinnamon because they’re both powdered and they have similar flavor profiles.

How to Toast Pecans

If you want to use toasted pecans with your maple pecan French toast, use the following method to do it easily.
