The key to enjoying this homemade cake? Making it with love and sharing it with all your family and friends. There are very few things in life that are better than conversation and cake.
What makes a German Chocolate Cake German?
It’s been said that this cake was actually created all the way back in the 1850s! And it’s actually not “German” at all. In fact, it was created by the baker, Samuel German, which is how it got its original name.
Does German Chocolate Cake Need To Be Refrigerated?
While it doesn’t have to be, I find it that with the frosting on this cake, it tends to do better that way. If you tend to like your cake a little bit more warm, just heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave (not too long though or it will melt the frosting).
How Long Does German Chocolate Cake Last In The Fridge?
If the cake is at my house, about a day, but this is because every time that someone goes into the kitchen, they stop and take a bite of it as they pass by. If you’re wondering how long you can save it without worries, I would say about 5 days is going to be the max.
While I don’t think it would “spoil” past this point, my main worry would be about the moistness of the cake, I would assume that after several days of being in the fridge, the cake is going to start becoming more drier as the days pass by.
(And if you just eat it all the very first day, this isn’t something that you’re even going to have to worry about!)

Should You Use Sweetened Or Unsweetened Coconut Flakes For This Homemade Cake Recipe?
This is totally up to you and your taste buds. If you use sweetened coconut flakes, it will add another level of sweetness to the cake. For this reason, many people tend to use unsweetened coconut flakes.
If you’re wanting to use both, in all reality, you could. Use one type on the middle layer and one type on the top later and see if you can taste or even notice a difference. It sounds like a fun and yummy food experiment that is worth a try to me.
