Muddy Buddy mix is one of my favorite sweet treats to make for any occasion. It’s so easy and so full of delicious flavor and also so much fun to play around with! I’ve been making it for years, and in that time, I’ve served it at holiday get-togethers, potlucks, birthday parties, and even just kept it on hand for after-school snacks when my kids were in school. They and their friends always ate it all in a matter of a couple of days, so I’ve pretty much mastered this dish. Although being as easy as it is, it really didn’t take much to get it down perfectly.

Easter Muddy Buddy Mix

Lots of things are associated with Easter. Chocolate bunnies, Cadbury Creme Eggs, colorful candies, baskets, and the like are all part and parcel of the Easter season. The thing that I associate with the holiday more than any of those – almost as much as family – is sweet treats. Easter is a time for all kinds of delicious, colorful treats, from cupcakes and cakes to colorful Jello desserts, and of course, this Easter Muddy Buddy mix.

I’ve been making this snack mix for the Easter season for years and has become a tradition that my entire family looks forward to. It’s so sweet and filled with so many delicious flavors. It’s also super colorful, as any great Easter treat should be.

Why You’ll Love This Easter Bunny Chow Recipe

There’s a lot to love about this recipe. It’s fun. It’s easy, and it’s delicious. I mean, those three alone are enough to make anyone want to make it!

  • This is a fun snack for the Easter season. It’s a sweet finger food snack that people can simply scoop into a small bowl, or grab a handful straight from the batch, and enjoy.
  • It’s a great recipe for letting the kids help in the kitchen. Stirring ingredients and adding the mix-ins are both something the kids can help the adults with.
  • It uses incredibly simple ingredients, which falls squarely in line with the simplicity of the dish as a whole.
  • Storing leftovers is incredibly easy. Just throw them in a container and you’re done!

Variations

One of the great things about this recipe – outside of being easy and delicious, of course – is how much fun it is to play with it. One of the hallmarks of any muddy buddy mix is being able to play with the mix-in ingredients to create new and personalized variations each and every time.

  • Add your favorite Easter candy to this mix. Try Cadbury Mini Eggs and even Reese’s Eggs. The sky’s the limit as long as the candy is bite-size or close. Gummies are a nice addition, as well.
  • Mini marshmallows and white chocolate chips are great to add to this snack mix.
  • Use your favorite Chex cereal for this recipe. It comes in a variety of flavors from Rice to Chocolate. Hit the cereal aisle and check them out.
  • Add your favorite nuts of any variety. I love roasted peanuts, almonds, or pecans.

I made the Easter Muddy Buddy mix and might make it again with changes. I would not add any of the m&m’s eggs or pretzels until after all is mixed and powdered sugar sprinkled over mix. Other wise the colored candies are all chocolate coated and results are a muddy mess. Flavor. Ok

Hi Judy, yes, wait to add any of the chocolate candies or pretzels until after the chocolate covered, powdered sugared covered cereal has cooled. Then add all the chocolate candies when ready to serve. It definitely would be a chocolate mess if it was added while the cereal was still hot.

Does the cereal not all stick together after pouring the melted chocolate and stirring all together?

Hi Christy, Once the cereal is coated with the chocolate and then the powdered sugar, you spread in out on a baking sheet in a single layer and let it cool. When you are ready to serve, just all off the goodies. I hope you enjoy this recipe. :)
