If you like Rice Krispies treats, you’re going to love these S’mores marshmallow treats. They take all the sensibilities of one of our favorite childhood treats and combine them with the flavors of S’mores! I’ve been making these treats since I discovered them several years ago. I’m a big fan of sweet treats, and so are my kids. Many times, they’d come home from school with their friends to decimate an entire plate of these delicious treats.

Now that they’re grown… well, they still decimate entire plates of these treats, honestly. They have as much of a sweet tooth as I do, so when I know the kids and grandkids are stopping by, I’ll make a batch of these treats for us to enjoy together. I never have leftovers, so it’s always a great time.

S’mores Marshmallow Treats

These S’mores marshmallow treats are absolutely delicious. They have a wonderful texture and their sweetness satisfies even the biggest of sweet teeth. A base of S’mores cereal is combined with marshmallows, butter, and chocolate chips or chocolate melting wafers to create a hand-held snack that is as sweet and delicious as the campfire favorite – and much easier to eat! They’re the perfect dessert, movie night snack, or after school snack for the family.

Variations

There’s really not a lot to change when it comes to this recipe. Unlike many of the recipes I share with you, this one should be made pretty much as-is. Otherwise, it’s not really S’mores. The one exception is the cereal base. If you can’t find or don’t have S’mores cereal, you can use Golden Grahams to the same effect. They both make an excellent base for these treats, giving them that classic graham cracker flavor to go with the chocolate and marshmallows.

FAQ

If you have questions about these S’mores marshmallow treats, then I have answers. The following FAQ answers all the most commonly asked questions about S’mores and these treats.

Where do S’mores come from?

The first written account of S’mores can be found in a cookbook published in the early 1920s where the treats were referred to as “Graham Cracker Sandwiches”. Although the first printed account of the treat, the writing in the book made note that the snacks were already popular with the Girl Scouts.

Where do Rice Krispies treats come from?

Rice Krispies treats were created in 1939 by Malitta Jensen and Mildred Day at the Kellogg Company home economics department as part of a fundraiser for Camp Fire Girls.

How long are S’mores marshmallow treats good?

These can be stored at room temperature for about 2 days. For longer storage, wrap them individually in cling wrap and then freeze them in an air-tight freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Can you freeze S’mores marshmallow treats?

Absolutely. Wrap them individually in cling wrap and then freeze them in single layers in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or in heavy-duty freezer bags.

Why are my treats so sticky?

If you use too much butter or too much marshmallow, your treats will be overly gooey and too sticky.

Why are my treats so dry and/or hard?

Overcooking the marshmallow will make it hard. Heat them until just melted and pull them from the heat immediately.
