Red Velvet Cupcakes

A favorite cupcake recipe that is perfect for any occasion.

For the Cupcakes

  • cup flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • cup sugar
  • 4 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup milk
  • tsp red food coloring
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • ½ cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups powdered sugar


For the Cupcakes

  1. Preheat oven to 350° and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt together until combined.

  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

  4. Next, add eggs, sour cream and milk. Mix together on medium speed until well blended. Add red food coloring and blend until fully incorporated.

  5. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix well.

  6. Gently fold in chocolate chips.

  7. Fill each cupcake liner ¾ full and bake for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick is inserted and comes out clean.

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar, on medium speed, until fully combined.

  2. Place frosting into piping bag and frost cupcakes once they have completely cooled.
